Picture 1Just in time for their upcoming tour, The Blue Dot is now sponsoring Philly’s hottest band, Drink Up Buttercup.  The boys in DUB head out this week for a countrywide tour and we’re looking forward to their mobile updates, which will be sent from their refurbished iPhone.

DUB’s tour, which includes several shows with Indy favorites We Are Scientists, will take them to the South By South West festival in Austin, Texas where the band is eager to showcase their first full-length album. The album, Born and Thrown on a Hook, drops from Yep Rock Records on March 23rd and is available for pre-order at Drink Up’s website.  There you can also find links to their Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter pages where you can sign up to receive their mobile updates from the road.

2010 looks to be a huge year for Drink Up, and we’re proud to be a part of their success. Here’s a video from a studio session they did on their last tour. Enjoy.

To follow along from your phone, simply visit Google and do a search for the sport that you are interested in, and the latest info about game results, schedules, medal count, and more will appear right above the search results.

For more in-depth information about the games, check out Google News for your mobile by going to google.com/games10/m on your phone.

(Dark Blue) States that have banned texting - (Light Blue) States debating over passing the ban

Texting from your new or refurbished cell phone while driving is obviously not a responsible thing to do, but the number of state legislators who feel that you are not responsible enough to govern your own actions while driving is steadily increasing.

19 states (Shown in dark blue on the map) have already banned texting while driving, and 23 states (shown in light blue) are currently debating over passing the ban.  AAA’s director of state relations, Justin McNaull, believes that at least 12 more bans will pass in 2010. He feels, “There’s clear public disapproval of the behavior, and there’s strong public support for a law.” The president of FocusDriven, Jennifer Smith, says, “I’m kind of at a loss as to why every state doesn’t have a no-texting law. That’s a no-brainer.”

According to the department of transportation, 5,870 people, 16% of all highway fatalities, died in distracted-driving crashes and 515,000 were injured in 2008.

While I do agree that texting while driving is extremely dangerous, I don’t, realistically speaking, see people turning their phones off until they get home. Hopefully more car manufacturers will follow Ford’s lead and incorporate safe ways to use your phone without ever having to take your eyes off the road.

ford-logoRecent reports show that Ford will be offering a Wifi option in a select number of their 2010 models. These models will have Wifi built in and will have a USB port so that device’s can be plugged into the modem. This seems to be geared more towards using laptops in the car as opposed to your new or refurbished cell phone but if you’re disappointed with, say, your 3G coverage on your iPhone, having the option to plug into your car’s high speed Wifi will be pretty nice.

Ford hasn’t yet confirmed which models will offer Wifi, but they have assured consumers that the vehicle’s internal modem will automatically update itself to remain compatible with as many devices as possible as technology advances.

Although companies like Verizon are offering products like Mifi that give you hotspot access anywhere, Ford’s $29 per month service fee is definitely on the more affordable side of the spectrum.
