It’s Friday! So, let’s do something fun for today’s article. I was thinking, while watching a movie the other day, how easily some movie plots would be ruined by simply using a cellphone. The plot wouldn’t even really be ruined, so much that the movie would change from 90 minutes to 5 minutes. So here’s some movie plots that would end pretty abruptly with the simple use of a modern day smart phone.

I love acronyms, don’t you? They make everything sound so technical and make you sound smart in general conversation. Well, here’s another one for you, NFC. My very first article here at TheBlueDot was about Google Wallet using NFC for credit card transactions. That didn’t amount to much at the time since only a couple phones had the technology to use it. But now, later this year, almost every new smart phone will have NFC, including the iPhone 5. So what is NFC, how will it be used, and is it even worth your interest?

Just take a moment and wonder at the marvel of the technology in your hand, if you happen to own a smart phone. Think about it, you have a tiny computer in your hand that has access to the web, bluetooth, GPS, texting, calling, wifi and in some cases an HD camera. That is truly amazing and would have been unheard of just ten years ago. But now that we have these little handheld wonder-gadgets, there are plenty of companies out there taking advantage of the technology available. Here are some of the oddest attachments that you may have never heard of.

It’s starting to get really warm outside, and usually that means more outside activities with the best android phone apps out there! Personally I have taken up hiking every other weekend, and living in Pennsylvania I have plenty of places to go. But I had a thought while out on my latest hike… are there apps for my phone to make a hike easier, or at least, help me find more trails I may not know about? What if the worst comes to pass and I get lost? What apps can help fellow hikers or campers out there to stay safe and have fun?

We wrote about the iPhone 5 a lot towards the end of the year, only to be a bit disappointed to see that Apple was just releasing a slightly updated version of the iPhone 4. One of the major complaints from consumers is that Apple is touting one of the smallest screens on smart phones. It seems Android phones are going the bigger is better route with examples from Motorola’s Droid Razr to Samsung’s massive Note. A decade ago smaller phones were what was in, now it’s larger and thinner for easy browsing and less squinting to read text. Now that Apple is falling a bit behind in the screen category, what can we gather from a few sneak peaks that have leaked recently?
