So CES has finally kicked off and it seems almost every big electronics blog out there is inundated with UltraHD articles. Every company out there seems to have their own version of UltraHD, luckily most with the same resolution of 4k, because we certainly don’t want a repeat of blu-ray vs. HDDVD or Passive 3d to active 3d. There are a few 8k resolution TV’s… but lets be realistic here… they don’t have a shot for at least 10 more years. Anyway, what is this UltraHD thing all about, and how much will it cost us?

This post is for our friends who need to catch up with technology. Judging from several conversations I’ve had this week, the general public is not aware of what an RSS feed is or does, which is sad for us as we hope that everyone signs up with our feed in order to effortlessly follow along with our updates.
Basically, signing up for an RSS feed (which usually has an orange icon with the little wireless symbol in it (as is seen at the top of our column to the right) enables our blog to automatically send each update to you via whichever of the several available methods you choose. The benefit of RSS feeds is that you don’t have to actually go to all of the blogs/sites that interest you everyday to see what’s happening. Instead, their updates come to you, which is great because you don’t have to waste time checking sites that haven’t updated anything in a few days.
Don’t like getting lots of updates sent to your email account? Me either. That’s why you need to sign up for iGoogle. iGoogle is a digital dashboard (which you should make your homepage) that manages all of your social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, etc. as well as your Gmail account and RSS feeds. You can customize your iGoogle page to your liking so when you sign on, you get to see all of your updates from all of your different accounts in one place. It’s awesome, trust me.
Ok, so now you have iGoogle. The next time you are at a blog or a website that you find yourself visiting frequently, sign up for their RSS feed. When you click to sign up, it will ask you how you want to receive the updates, and you can now click to receive via Google/iGoogle. Signing up for a site’s RSS feed really means a lot for the website as it tells Google that their content is so good, you want it sent to you every time it’s updated, so be sure to sign up for all of your friends RSS feeds (and ours of course!).

Some friends in NYC have a great blog called Born Tired, which consists of nothing but images captured from their new and refurbished cell phones. Most of the members reside in New York, but many of the contributors travel frequently, so photos get posted from around the world. The pictures range from funny and ridiculous to beautiful and artsy, but what makes Born Tired so awesome is that the photos are nothing more than glimpses of everyday life.
The dominant theme of the blog is photos of people sleeping in public/random places (hence the name Born Tired), but a bunch of other themes have developed as the blog gained popularity. A lot of them are kind of inside jokes, but if you frequent the blog, you’ll start to pick up on them.
Born tired has gained so much popularity over the past year that there’s a sandwich named after the blog at Hana Food Corporation in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and the the blog is now actually being made into a book. The book will be a collection of the most popular photos as well as sections for the most common themes, and it will be published by &Press sometime this year. Born Tired the book is rumored to be approximately 150 pages in length and should retail for $10 – $15. We’ll keep you updated on the release.

Last week, Google launched yet another feature that will not doubt make your life easier. “Near Me Now” is Google’s newest feature, for iPhones or new and refurbished cell phones running Android software, which allows you to very simply find information about a specific business in your immediate vicinity or about several businesses around you.
There is a video on Google’s blog that illustrates how Near Me Now is useful when you’re standing outside of a restaurant, wondering if it’s good. With Near Me Now, you just go to Google.com, click Near Me Now, then click restaurants, and a list of the restaurants closest you appears. Just click the name of the restaurant you’re standing in front of, and their information appears including contact info, menus, and user reviews – all without having to type or say anything.
Near Me Now also makes things like finding a coffee shop after getting off an unfamiliar train stop simple. Just click Near Me Now, then Coffee Shops, and you get results for all of the coffee shops near where you are. Gotta love Google. They make everything so simple.
