We here at TheBlueDot love taking in used cell phones and putting them in another happy customers hands, but what about tablets? As tablets grow in popularity, thanks in part to the iPad and growing Android Tablet market, so do demands on newer and better technology. It seems new tablets are coming out just as quickly as new phones do, which can cause a bit of a headache for those unaccustomed to a device at such a price point being replaced so easily. So what can you do? The same thing you do with cell phones of course!

Looking to the future can be fun, especially when it seems that much more realistic when seeing how quickly technology advanced just this past decade! I remember watching Star Trek growing up and seeing those cool Data Pads that worked as a handheld computer. I thought that would be such a cool device to actually have, and here I am, sitting next to my Kindle Fire which is even better than the show portrayed (specifically it being in color). Sci-fi seems to be the natural predictor of the future lately which only makes it seem that much more exciting. But what real advances will we see in the next ten years? What should we expect and how soon?

This past holiday season it was quite evident that the Amazon Kindle Fire was incredibly successful, especially for Amazon. But what does that success mean for Google? It may not mean as much as you would think and you may know why if you own the Kindle Fire. Look though your Kindle Fires apps, what is missing that all Android phones have? That’s right, the Android Marketplace. Amazon essentially gutted out the Marketplace and put their own in its place. Which means one thing for Google, less profit.

Amazon is going for Apples throat with it’s soon to be released Kindle Fire, and it seems B&N wants a piece of the action. In almost immediate reaction to Amazon’s Kindle Fire, Barnes and Noble have announced a new tablet like E-reader called, quite creatively, the Nook Tablet (I know, it must have taken them hours to think of that name). jokes aside, it’s an impressive package with a 7 inch 1080p display, 11.5 hours of battery life, 16GB of built-in memory, which can expand with an SD card. It also will offer, out of the box, Netflix and Hulu Plus support, giving it a step ahead of Amazon’s Kindle. It has a better display, more RAM, more on-board memory, slightly lighter and it has free support with any Nook station in any Barnes and Noble. At just $250, $50 more than the Amazon Kindle Fire, it’s an enticing package which will also have Android OS support.

When the first iPad came out I was already an anti-tablet fan. I found them over priced, under powered and just an over sized smart phone that doesn’t make calls. I suppose that is more true for the iPad as it’s design is almost identical to their phones… But it isn’t true anymore. I have been eyeing up the Kindle Fire, patiently awaiting its release so I can jailbreak it and have a very cheap, light android tablet. Engadget released an article today that actually surprised me. Not because it is so obvious, but because I completely forgot about netbooks. It seems more tablets have been shipped than netbooks, which means probably one thing, netbooks are on their way out.
