When I look back at my very first cellphone, an old Nokia with it’s green display, I think of it’s few uses it offered me. Back then, a mere ten to twelve years ago, your phone was pretty cool if it had snake or tetris pre-installed, which is kind of all you got from beginning to end. There was no app store, there wasn’t even a Verizon Get it Now application, you merely had what it came with. But now, in the golden age of the smart phone, we have thousands of choices in apps, games and uses for our phones. But what if you missed something? Something that you may have never thought of.
NPD just did a market study that has a few shocks here and there, but it was mostly expected as Android pulls ahead of all competition. Google’s ability to offer their OS across various price points gives them the advantage as Apple pulls in a strong second with their more limited choices. But what about the other smart phone OS’s? With the big 10 cent Android Marketplace sale going on I thought it would be a great time to ask the staff what their favorite smart phone games are. Some didn’t even play games on their smart phone… amazing I know! But at least half our staff had some favorites they wanted to mention. The very first one on our list is obvious enough…
Looks like Google is celebrating its ten Billionth download by offering several apps and games for 10 cents! I’m a big fan of Minecraft and seeing it go for ten cents made it an instant buy for me! Google’s Android has seen enormous growth this past year which is evident in it’s download frequency. This past year, almost every month, Android Marketplace has seen a 1 billion increase in downloads. That is incredibly impressive considering Apple iPhone, which has been around considerably longer, reached 15 billion this past summer.
I know, I know, Thanksgiving isn’t even over yet, but we all know what day, and week, follows Thanksgiving. That’s right, Black Friday and Cyber Monday (which may as well be a Cyber week, as most online stores keep up the deals all week long). Electronics, and especially cellphones, are hot items almost every year, so we’re here to help narrow down, or help, in your holiday shopping needs!
